Sagarians immersed themselves in an evening of celebration of and reverence for the rich cultural heritage of India, executed on 21st April, in Rosemary Hall. Furthering the mission of SPIC MACAY, Dr. Anwesa Mahanta, Maestro of classical dance, Sattriya, a dance form from Assam, spellbound the gathering with her subtle and yet intense gestures of devotion and surrender to Lord Vishnu and His Avatars.
The programme unfolded with an invocation to Lord Ram, and Dr Mahanta wove intricate gestures into a timeless art piece of ethereal dance. During the programme, she demonstrated classical mudras and apprised the audience about the symphonic interplay of storytelling, musical movements and moral values. She manoeuvred the classical expression of the grandeur of Lord Krishna’s tussle with Kalia Naag, how he enchants every soul around Him and how every breath of cosmos responds to His flute. The event rounded off with the presentation of a token of appreciation of the endeavours of Dr Mahanta and her team in the promotion of Indian classical music and culture amongst youth.
